Egypt Land Tour:
May 15-21 and 28-30, 2010 |
A favorite of European divers,
the Red Sea is considered one of the best scuba destinations in the world. Thousands of kilometres of coastline are blessed with extensive reef formations and islands. The underwater scenery is rich with coral-covered walls and beautiful "gardens". Over 400 varieties of coral and 1500 species of fish, turtles and sharks make the Red Sea their home. Jacques Cousteau once said "The Red Sea is a corridor of marvels. The happiest hours of my diving experience have been spent there". That statement is as true today as it was when Jacques Cousteau explored here. Surrounded by desert, there is no runoff to cloud the crystal-clear waters. Traveling by liveaboard, we can reach the top offshore National Parks and avoid some of the crowds near the land-based resorts.
Tentative Itinerary:
"Best of the Red Sea "
Daedalus Reef - Rocky and Zabarghad Islands
Note: 50 logged dives required by Egyptian Law
Attention: This is ADVANCED and sometimes strenuous diving! At some of the best sites, inflatable dinghies are used, requiring a backward roll to enter the water, and a re-entry without a ladder. It’s fine to hand gear up and then kick your way back into the zodiac but you must be physically fit enough for this type of diving!
Package includes:
- 7 nights aboard the M/Y blue Melody in air-conditioned double occupancy staterooms with private bath
- Airport transfer from Hurghada
- Meals and fresh fruit between meals
- Non-alcoholic beverages
- 3-4 dives a day Saturday-Wednesday, conditions permitting, with two dives on Thursday morning
- Tanks, weights and weight belt
Not included: airfare to Hurghada (see air info below), visa on arrival (currently US$15), Egyptian Marine Park fees, equipment rental if needed, beer and wine, crew gratuity, trip insurance (required for this vacation), and departure tax.
Air Connections:
European divers have air connections directly to Hurghada (HRG) from multiple gateways. North American divers can fly to Cairo non-stop from JFK or via connections in Europe. Plan to arrive in Cairo on May 15, or Hurghada on May 21.
Deposit: $700; second payment of $1000 due 180 days prior to departure;
